Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
The Atlantic Immigration Program can be described as an immigration policy that permits Canadian employers operating in four Atlantic provinces which include Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island -- to employ foreign nationals to fill positions they've been unable to take on. In the context of the Atlantic Growth Strategy and the Atlantic Growth Strategy, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is designed to address labour shortages within Canada's Canadian Atlantic province.
What is the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program?
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is an immigration program that permits companies in Atlantic provinces in Canada to recruit immigrants for positions. It is also possible to apply for permanent residency through this program.
In 2017, AIPP was launched. AIPP has two programs designed for skilled workers:
- Atlantic High-Skilled Programme: The high-skilled workers need to have previous work experience that is at National Occupation Classification (NOC) skill A level or B.
- Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program Intermediate: Skilled employees must have previous work experience that is at the C level of NOC which is obtained from either within or outside Canada.

The Atlantic Immigration Program is designed to attract newcomers into Canada. Atlantic Canada region to fill the demands of local employers and communities.
The program permits designated local employers to find the need to recruit and keep in place international talent. The program has also the aim of fostering growth in the population, developing an educated workforce, and boosting employment within the region.
Requirements of Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program
The applicant must satisfy the eligibility requirements for one of the programs. The requirements differ based according to which one of three programs that make up the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program an applicant applies to:
High-Skilled Worker Stream.
To be eligible under this stream, applicants have to have a contract offer from a designated employer for 12 months or more to be eligible for a job. In addition to having a job offer, candidates in this stream must satisfy the following requirements:
- Work Experience: At minimum 12 months of full-time professional experience (or equivalent in part-time work).
- Education: The most common is a Canadian graduation certificate from a high school or the equivalent from a foreign country.
- Language Proficiency: At least the Canadian language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4 at an official test that is either English as well as French.
- Evidence of Funds: Show enough funds to provide for yourself and your family members when moving to Canada.
Intermediate-Skilled Worker Stream.
In order to be considered for this stream, a candidate must be offered a job from a designated employer to an ongoing position; Alongside an offer of employment, candidates who are in this stream must satisfy the following requirements:
- Work Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full-time working experience (or the equivalent in part-time) in NOC Level 0, B, C, or A.
- Education: The most common is a Canadian High School Diploma or the equivalent in a foreign country.
- Language Proficiency: A minimum is the Canadian language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4 with an approved test that is either English as well as French.
- Evidence of Funds: Show enough funds to provide for oneself and family members while you move to Canada.
- International Graduates Stream: Show enough funds to provide for oneself and family members while you move to Canada.
International Graduates Stream
In order to be considered for this stream, a candidate has to have a contract offer from a designated employer minimum of twelve months; Alongside an offer of employment, candidates who are in this stream must satisfy the following requirements:
- Work Experience: No required experience.
- Education: A valid educational credential (minimum two months) at an educational institution within an Atlantic province in which the student was a resident for a minimum 16 months in the last two years of their studies. The credential must have been completed within the past 24 months.
- Language Proficiency: At least the Canadian Level 4 Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4 with an approved test, either in English as well as French.
- Documentation of Funds: Prove that you have sufficient funds to sustain yourself and your family members while you move to Canada.
How does the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program Work?
The Atlantic Immigration Program is an employer-driven program that facilitates the recruitment of foreign nationals. Principal applicants coming to Canada through the program have to receive a formal job offer from an employer designated by the program and an individual settlement plan for their families and themselves.
If a designated employer discovers an applicant who matches their requirements for employment and requirements of the program, that employer has to offer them a position. Employers do not have to undergo the process of getting a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
After the candidate has accepted the position The employer will then link the applicant to a selected settlement service provider to conduct a needs analysis and create a settlement strategy. Employers will also help with the long-term integration of the immigrants as well as their family members.
